1080p, 720p and 480p: Picture Quality and Data

The old DudeFilms buttons said 1080p Movies, 720p Movies and 480p Movies. Here is what those mean on today's streaming apps, and which setting suits your phone, TV and data pack.

What the three buttons meant

On the 2021 and 2022 site, three dark buttons sat side by side: 1080P Movies, 720P Movies and 480P Movies. They were picture sizes. 480p is standard definition, fine on a small phone. 720p is HD, sharp on phones and tablets. 1080p is full HD, the one for laptops and TVs.

On the apps today

Streaming apps pick the size for you and adjust as your connection changes, and each has a quality setting you can fix. Data saver, around 480p, uses roughly half a gigabyte an hour. HD 720p uses around a gigabyte, full HD 1080p around three, and 4K with HDR on the premium plans can use seven or more.

Long films, big numbers

Check the runtime in the post before a long one. Dhurandhar and Pushpa 2 - The Rule both run past three and a half hours, and Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups past three. On mobile data, data saver keeps a whole film comfortable; on home Wi-Fi, go for the highest setting your plan offers.

Where to see it

Every service in the Watch Now list shows the quality it offers, SD, HD or 4K. The HD tag in each DudeFilms post means the title had a proper high-definition release.
